The Intern

Last week I went to the movies with my girlfriends to see the The Intern and it was exactly what I needed. I haven’t see a feel-good chick-flick in a long time, and this one hit home for a lot of different reasons. It made me laugh and cry, and I fell in love with Robert Deniro’s character and especially Anne Hathaway (again). Did you know she’s a Jersey girl, and grew up in Short Hills? Her career started at the Papermill Playhouse. That’s my fun fact for the day. :)

Anyway… aside from the adorable story line, and Jules’ wardrobe, I loved the incredible set design by Director Nancy Meyers. It’s no wonder why I loved it so much because she also directed The Holiday, a movie I confessed my love for here, here and here, and Somethings Gotta Give, a movie which inspired my career in interior design.

In The Intern, I loved the dark gray cabinets and old wood floors that made the house seem so warm and family friendly. The dark, masculine bedroom is also a room that I could definitely see myself living in… my friend even whispered that to me as soon as the room came on screen. :) I really loved this movie and recommend you see it, if you haven’t already!

This modern, industrial space is so gorgeous with a hint of femininity. I am gearing up to finish my basement to make that my office and I got a ton of inspiration from their space!

the shining

Ryan’s been saying that he’s in the mood to watch a scary movie. So with last nights crisp chill in the air, it was the perfect night to snuggle up in bed and watch one of the best historical thrillers. It’s hard to believe The Shining is over 30 years old. The interiors are still so modern and classic, I was more interested in the set design then the creepy twins at the end of the hall.

the holiday in england

R and I went to London way too long ago and I wish we would have stayed outside of the city to experience the countryside . This home of Iris (played by Kate Winslet) is everything I see my country house being – a modest charming home where you can snuggle up next to an old stone fireplace and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

the holiday in los angeles

I’m a sap for a good light hearted love story, and The Holiday fits the bill. For those of you who may not have seen it,  the story is about two women troubled with guy-problems that swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.

This amazing set in Los Angeles is the home of main character Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz. Every time I watch this movie, I drool over the interiors!
